Quieter day - only one excursion in the morning.
Wonderful breakfast as usual then boarded covered tourist speedboats which took us to the Victoria Hotel in Chau Doc. Lovely spot, then we boarded a bus for a short drive to the Chua Tay An Buddhist temple, then a walk to the Ba Chua Xu Hindu temple. Lots of incense and a few beggars.
Next we're back on the bus for a short drive to a dock where we boarded a sampan for a very interesting ride along the river. The sights of tin huts on stilts above the river is enlightening and a little depressing, seeing how some of the very poor families live.
On the way back we stop at a fish farm, which is basically a large hut built on top of a 10 x 10 x 15 meter cage which houses approximately 10,000 small carp along with catfish at the bottom of the tank. The smell is a bit overwhelming for Nadine, but the rest of us enjoy the frenzy of the tiny carp as the keepers toss some of the food pellets in the top of the cage.
Victoria Hotel is a stunning contrast to the poverty on the river, then we're riding back to the luxurious Scenic Spirit.
Another luxurious lunch then a dip in the pool, followed by some down time.
Afterwards we wander up to the top deck for a dragon dance to celebrate our departure from Vietnam. These are a group of young dancers, very energetic, who amaze us with their acrobatics and colourful display.
